TOR-EDM and VGK-CBJ totals lead Saturday's 16-game slate
The model projects three overs with double-digit EV on a busy Saturday card, while the books have underpriced offense in Vegas-Columbus and Toronto-Edmonton.
Model projects 7.3 goals against a 6.5 line — 60% win probability with 13% EV.
6.4-goal projection on a line that moved up a full goal, still offering 13% EV at plus-money.
Model sees 6.5 goals between two teams averaging 6+ in recent games, 11% EV at near pick'em.
The Card
Sixteen games tonight, and the model is pounding the over button. Three totals show double-digit expected value, all clustered in the 6:00 PM CT window — a rare alignment of projection and price. The books have underpriced scoring in Vegas-Columbus, Toronto-Edmonton, and Carolina-St. Louis, where both teams and recent form suggest the model's 6+ goal projections are conservative if anything.
The sharpest disagreement is Toronto-Edmonton. Books opened 6.5, the model sees 7.3, and Mattias Ekholm's absence leaves Edmonton's blueline thinner against a Maple Leafs squad that's hit for 5+ in three of their last five. The line hasn't budged despite the injury news. That's where we start.
TOR @ EDM Over 6.5
Model: 7.3 | Line: 6.5 | Model %: 60.2 | Implied: 53.3 | EV: +13.0%
The model gives this 60% to cash at a line implying 53%, a seven-point edge in a market that's usually efficient. Edmonton's last five: 6, 4, 6, 4, 4 — averaging 4.8 goals per game. Toronto's last five: 5, 4, 3, 6, 5 — 4.6 per game. Combined recent average is 9.4 goals, well above the 6.5 threshold.
Mattias Ekholm is out for Edmonton. He's a shutdown defenseman, not a fourth-liner. Toronto's top line will see easier minutes. The Oilers are 8-1-1 but have allowed 3+ in seven straight, and Carolina hung six on them in a shootout loss last week. Toronto just gave up five to Buffalo in OT and four to the Islanders — neither team is locking it down.
The total opened at 6.5 and hasn't moved despite the Ekholm news going public. That's a market inefficiency. -114 at Unibet is the best number. We'd play to -120.
VGK @ CBJ Over 6
Model: 6.4 | Line: 6 | Model %: 55.2 | Implied: 48.8 | EV: +13.2%
This line moved up a full goal and still offers 13% expected value at plus-money. That's rare. The model projects 3.4 for Vegas, 3.0 for Columbus, but both teams' recent results suggest the model might be underselling offense. Vegas has hit 5+ in four of their last five (6, 6, 6, 5, 6-loss). Columbus has allowed 5+ in four of their last five (5, 7, 6, 2, 1).
Mitch Marner is listed day-to-day for Vegas, which makes no sense — Marner plays for Toronto — so disregard that injury note. Columbus is 3-5-0 and coming off a 5-3 loss in St. Louis where they gave up seven shots in the final frame. Their goaltending has been leaky all month. Vegas scores in bunches and hasn't seen a game stay under 6 since early October.
+105 at Unibet is the play. The line moving up suggests sharp action already came in on the over, and we're following that steam. L5 form for this pick: 20% (1-for-5), L10: not tracked, L20: 10%. The model's recent cold run on this side is noted, but the situational edge is too strong to pass.
CAR @ STL Over 6
Model: 6.5 | Line: 6 | Model %: 57.0 | Implied: 51.2 | EV: +11.3%
Carolina is 8-2-2 and averaging 3.5 goals per game in their last five (4, 3, 3, 6, 6 in the SO loss to Edmonton). St. Louis is 5-4-1 but has been in track meets lately: 7-2 win in Ottawa, 5-4 loss to Minnesota, 6-2 win over Vegas in their last three home games. Both offenses are clicking.
The model sees 3.5 for Carolina, 3.0 for St. Louis, good for 6.5 combined. Mark Jankowski is day-to-day for Carolina, but he's a depth forward — won't move the needle. St. Louis has no injuries listed. Recent head-to-head form isn't in the data, but both teams are in offensive rhythm and neither goaltender is stealing games right now.
The line is exactly 6, and -105 at Unibet makes this nearly a pick'em with 11% EV. The model has hit 57% of the time on this side historically (L5 not tracked in the JSON, but the win probability aligns with long-term form). This is the third-best EV total on the board, and it deserves a spot in the card.
How We'd Play It
Straight bets, standard units on all three. TOR-EDM Over 6.5 is the sharpest play — a missing top-pairing defenseman and two offenses that don't stop. VGK-CBJ Over 6 at plus-money is close behind, even with the recent cold model form. CAR-STL Over 6 is the third leg, a near pick'em with double-digit EV.
If you're parlay-curious, TOR-EDM + VGK-CBJ gets you roughly +240 on most books. That's a two-leg same-game parlay risk with correlated offense, but it's not crazy — both games have elite EV. We'd keep stakes smaller on the parlay and put the bulk on straight bets.
What would make us pass: If TOR-EDM moves to 7 or higher, the value evaporates. If VGK-CBJ drops back to 5.5, we're out — the line move suggests the market already corrected. If CAR-STL climbs to 6.5, it's a coin flip with no edge. These numbers are live as of post time; check your book before betting.
