Hornets ML and Three Props Highlight Friday's Edge Board

The model sees Charlotte as a coin flip at home while the books disagree. Four props in Cleveland-Philly and Denver-OKC bring double-digit EV.

CHA ML
+130 BRBRmodel 50.8%+16.8%

Model has this as a 50-50 game; books are giving us 7.3% edge at plus money.

The Card

Nine games Friday, and the model finds real disagreement in a couple spots. The biggest edge is Charlotte at home against Atlanta — we make the Hornets a 50.8% favorite, the books have them at 43.5% implied. That's a 16.84% EV moneyline at +130. Detroit-Miami is another market vs model split: we see the Pistons covering +2 at a 56.9% clip, books say 51.2%. The spread moved down a point in our favor.

The props are where the cleaner setups live tonight. VJ Edgecombe has been crushing his PRA total (70% L10, 80% L20), and the line sits five points below our projection. DeMar DeRozan is five games into a hot stretch, and the model gives him nearly four points of cushion over 14.5. We're also tracking a couple longer shots on Jaylon Tyson and Tyrese Maxey that carry elevated variance but solid EV.

CHA ML (+130)

Model: 50.8% | Implied: 43.5% | EV: 16.84%

The model sees a dead-even game between two 1-0 teams. Atlanta won five straight to close the preseason, but Charlotte has home court and the sharper side of the number. Our fair line for the spread is CHA -4.0; the market opened CHA +3.5 and moved a full point toward Charlotte. The moneyline sits at +130 on BetRivers, which translates to 7.3 percentage points of edge and nearly 17% EV.

Form: Charlotte split its last five (2-3), winning twice against Brooklyn and Milwaukee before dropping three to Boston, Memphis, and Brooklyn again. Atlanta's five-game win streak came against playoff-caliber opponents — San Antonio, Indiana, OKC, Dallas, Orlando. The model accounts for strength of schedule and still puts this at a toss-up.

Matchup: No major injury concerns for Atlanta. Charlotte is without Coby White and Grant Williams, and Kon Knueppel is day-to-day. Even with the personnel gaps, the model trusts the home court and the closing line value. Best odds are +130 at BetRivers.

VJ Edgecombe Over 19.5 PRA (+140)

Projection: 24.75 | Model %: 53.7% | Implied: 41.7% | EV: 28.92%

Edgecombe has been one of the sharper PRA plays this week. He's averaging 21.1 PRA over his last 10 games, hitting the over in 7 of 10 and 8 of his last 20. The L5 dipped to 60% (three overs in five), but the line hasn't caught up. His last five outputs: 14, 21, 22, 25, 15. The projection gives him more than five points of cushion.

Form: The 80% L20 hit rate is elite, and the 21.1 average suggests the book is pricing him a full bucket-and-a-half too low. He's coming off a 15 PRA game — his worst of the last four — which likely kept this line from moving.

Matchup: Cleveland-Philly tips at 6 PM CT. Philly is without Tacko Fall, Dean Wade is day-to-day, and two other rotation pieces are out. Edgecombe should see plenty of run and usage. The best odds are +140 at Underdog, which gives us 12.05 percentage points of edge and nearly 29% EV. One of the cleanest props on the board.

DeMar DeRozan Over 14.5 Points (+140)

Projection: 18.43 | Model %: 50.1% | Implied: 41.7% | EV: 20.16%

DeRozan is averaging 17.9 points over his last 10 games, and the model projects him nearly four points above the line. His L10 hit rate is 50%, but his L5 is 80% — four overs in five games. The last five scores: 9, 14, 28, 22, 33. He's trending up hard. The line moved up a point from 13.5 to 14.5, and we still see value.

Form: The streak shows one under, but that's the 14-point game two outings ago. Before that, he went 28-22-33 in three straight. The H2H sample is small but perfect: 100% over in three head-to-head meetings between Denver and OKC.

Matchup: Denver is on the road in Oklahoma City, 8:30 PM CT. OKC is without three rotation players (Nikola Topic, Thomas Sorber, Otega Oweh). Denver is missing Spencer Jones (day-to-day) and Julian Strawther (out). DeRozan should see his normal usage, and the model likes his shot volume in this spot. Best odds are +140 at Underdog, giving us 8.4 percentage points of edge and just over 20% EV.

Jaylon Tyson Over 9.5 Points (+119)

Projection: 13.21 | Model %: 54.0% | Implied: 45.7% | EV: 18.21%

This is the riskiest of the four picks. Tyson is averaging just 2.2 points over his last 10 games and has gone under in 13 straight. His last five outputs: 2, 3, 4, 0, 2. The model projects 13.2, but the form is brutal.

Why bet it? The edge is real — 8.31 percentage points, 18.21% EV — and the one H2H sample against Philly shows a 100% over (he scored more than 9.5 in that game). The L20 hit rate is 25%, which is low but better than the L10 and L5. The projection suggests the book is massively underpricing his ceiling in this matchup.

Matchup: Cleveland-Philly, 6 PM CT. Philly's frontcourt is depleted (Tacko Fall out, Dean Wade day-to-day, two others out). If Tyson gets run, he's got a path to 10+ points. This is a lean, not a love. The variance is high, the form is cold, but the model sees a structural mispricing. Best odds are +119 at Underdog. Use this as a lottery ticket, not a foundation bet.

How We'd Play It

Straight bets on all four, sized in that order. CHA ML gets the biggest allocation — it's a coinflip at plus money with 16.84% EV, and the line moved in our direction. Edgecombe PRA is second — the form is elite, the projection is clean, the EV is 29%. DeRozan points is third — the hot streak and H2H sample give us confidence, even if the L10 hit rate is just 50%. Tyson points is the smallest bet, maybe half a unit. The form is ice-cold, but the edge and matchup make it worth a flier.

A small two-leg parlay (CHA ML + Edgecombe over) would return about +450 and captures the two strongest edges. Avoid parlays with Tyson — his variance will kill the ticket more often than not.

Pass if: Charlotte's line moves past +120, or if Edgecombe's line climbs to 21.5. We'd also pass on Tyson if more context emerges about his role — if he's not starting or playing 20+ minutes, the ceiling collapses. DeRozan is a hold as long as the line stays under 15.5.
